Women in Africa is 5 years old!!!!!

Hafsat Abiola-Costello

Incredible how far we’ve come, from audacious but small beginnings involving some of Africa’s leading businesswomen and their question to Aude de Thuin – could she build a platform that offered African women the same level of support and access that women entrepreneurs in Europe and North America had?

I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to attend the first gathering in Morocco as WIA Ambassador for Nigeria. From that first summit, WIA would go on to convene another and yet another – gathering women doers and male champions from across the continent and around the world in one place to learn, connect and collaborate. The energy that was generated was electrifying!

So when I joined Women in Africa as President in 2018, I was beyond excited to help steer an organisation on the forefront of nurturing the economic development and support of African women entrepreneurs.

Today, WIA has built a network of over a hundred thousand brilliant women and actors with one common objective: empowering African women to have a significant impact in the development of the continent.

Thanks to our programmes, we have been able to support 729 women entrepreneurs and contribute to the creation of 4050 jobs.

As we mark our 5th anniversary, I’m happy to share our commitment to expand our reach. Our next target: to support 10,000 women entrepreneurs, help create 100,000 jobs, and train 10,000 young girls in the digital skills needed for tomorrow. All by 2030!!!

I would like to express my warmest gratitude to our community, our ambassadors, our partners, our team and our founder.

I am so proud of what we have achieved so far and I look forward to what we will do together next. Let’s do this!!!
