WANEP PAYS ADVOCACY VISIT TO NASARAWA




WANEP-Nigeria with support from the UNDP paid advocacy visits to Nasarawa State and interacted with relevant MDAs and key stakeholders to create awareness for support and collaboration for the passage of the draft peace and conflict management bill,   establishment, operationalization of a Peacebuilding Agency, and the ICT based Early Warning/Early Response system for prevention and management of conflict in the State.

The advocacy visit was also supported by the Special Adviser (SA) to the Nasarawa State Governor on NGOs and Development, Mrs Munira Abdullahi and the Foundation for Justice Development and Peace (FJDP).

Stakeholders pledged their support to expedite action on the passage of the Bill considering the increasing cases of criminality in the country.

 Advocacy visits were also paid to the Speaker, State House of Assembly (Rt Hon Ibrahim Abdullahi); The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice (Dr AbdulKarim Kana);  The Secretary to the State Government (Barr Muhammad Ubandoma Aliyu); Director, Special Services, Office of the SSG (Mr Adamu Akpa); Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development (Hajiya Hauwa Aliyu Ogah), amongst others, with a unanimous endorsement of the peacebuilding activities.

UNDP and WANEP took the opportunity to brief the State and non-State actors about the progress made on the project and the planned regional peace conference.
