President Bola Tinubu has approved the return of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria to the Office of the Vice President for supervision, in compliance with their various establishment Acts.
A statement signed on Tuesday by the Director of Information, Office of the Vice President, Olusola Abiola, titled “President Tinubu approves the return of NEMA, Hajj Commission to Vice President’s Office,” confirmed the return.
Prior to Tuesday’s statement, NEMA had been under the purview of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development since it was created in August 2019.
The Hajj Commission had been under the purview of the Presidency, with its leadership reporting directly to former President Muhammadu Buhari.
President Tinubu also approved a formal structure for the Office of the Vice President as well as an “appropriate number” of technical and administrative aides that will work with the Vice President in the discharge of his responsibilities, the statement said.
