Gunmen suspected to be armed bandits have killed the village head of Gusasai community, Alhaji Abu, and kidnapped his wife, two daughters, and a male family member.
The incident happened between 12am-1am on Wednesday in the Bosso Local Government Area of Niger State. According to a community member, the gunmen stormed the area on Wednesday night, shot the village head in front of his family members, and then abducted the family members. No contact has been made by the gunmen for ransom yet.
The motive for the attack was not clear, but speculations claimed it may be related to an incident last year where the village head was accused of being involved in cattle rustling.
The state Police Command Public Relations Officer, PRO, DSP Wasiu Abiodun did not respond to requests for comment.
