Three persons have so far been confirmed dead following a passenger train collision with a Lagos state government staff bus along the Agege motor road area of Lagos early this morning .
An unspecified number of people were also critically injured when the staff bus which attempted to cross the PWD/Sogunle rail crossing unfortunately collided with the train coming into Lagos from Abeokuta .
The train reportedly dragged the bus from the Sogunle vicinity of the collision to the PWD area of Ikeja, a distance of about 300 metres.
Reports alleged that the immediate cause of the accident was due to reckless driving on the part of the BRT bus driver while trying to beat the train traffic signal before the moving train rammed into the bus.
The injured victims have been administered first aid treatment by the agency’s medical team (paramedics) and LASAMBUS officials, well stabilized and being transported to trauma center at LASUTH Ikeja for further treatment.
Spokesperson for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Mr. Taofiq Adebayo said rescue operation was on-going as officials of LASEMA, NEMA, Police, FRSC, Civil Defence and the Nigeria Railway Corporation team converged on the scene.
Meanwhile, the injured passengers were taken to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja.
The accident caused a gridlock on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway for motorists coming from Oshodi around Shogunle to Ikeja-Along
