President Bola Tinubu today ordered a thorough investigation into the circumstances which led to the death of 35 children during last Wednesday’s Children’s Funfair carnival in Ibadan , the Oyo state capital.
The President, while sympathizing with the families of victims of the tragic incident, in a press statement signed by the Presidential spokesman, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, stressed the need to determine the cause of the tragic incident and take necessary measures to prevent a reoccurrence.
“Our children’s safety and well-being remain paramount. No event should ever compromise their safety or take precedence over their lives,” he said.
The Oyo State Police Command while confirming the death of 35 children and arrest of eight suspects in connection with the tragic incident at Basorun Islamic High School, Ibadan, Oyo State, said efforts are on to unravel the circumstances which led to the stampede .
Meanwhile, the case has been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku, with the Deputy Commissioner of Police leading the investigation.
