Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has assured residents that the Red Line Rail project will be completed before the end of his first term in office. The Governor made the pledge while inspecting the ongoing project and vehicular overpass bridges at Yaba and Oyingbo train stations.
The Governor expressed satisfaction with the progress and level of work on the Red Line Rail, which is in its first phase from Oyingbo to Agbado. He also emphasized the importance of the vehicular overpass bridges, which will help to prevent train-vehicle accidents and reduce travel time for Lagosians.
Governor Sanwo-Olu noted that all the vehicular overpass bridges are essential, especially in light of the unfortunate train and bus accident that occurred a few weeks ago at Shogunle. He explained that the bridges are intended not only to provide full vehicular access but also to stop trains, vehicles, and passengers from needing to interact.
The Governor said the State Government would be doing a lot of testing and signalization because the road tracks will also be working with the Nigerian Railway Corporation, operating a train from Ebute-Meta in Lagos to Ibadan. He emphasized the need to harmonize a lot of signalization between the rail infrastructure of the State Government and that of the Nigerian Railway Corporation.
Governor Sanwo-Olu also urged traders along the Right of Way of the Red Line Rail to relocate and avoid the dangers of staying there. He expressed delight with the peaceful coexistence among various ethnic nationals living in Lagos State, especially in Yaba and Oyingbo, where there are many commercial activities. He urged those still carrying politics of bitterness to join the government in meeting the aspirations of Lagosians, which is to provide economic opportunities for them and make the state peaceful.
The Governor’s promise to complete the Red Line Rail project before the end of his first term aligns with his administration’s commitment to improving transportation in Lagos State.
