Osun LG poll: Don’t truncate democracy – Makinde tells APC

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has advised the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, not to truncate the current democratic dispensation in the country.

Speaking on Sunday, Makinde warned APC against resorting to self-help in local government administration in Osun State.

The governor made these remarks during the swearing-in of the 30 newly elected local government chairmen.

Recall that the local government election was conducted in all 30 local government areas of Osun State on Saturday and was won by PDP.

Speaking in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, during the swearing-in ceremony for the elected council chairmen, Makinde urged APC not to exploit federal power to undermine democratic processes.

Addressing the gathering, the governor charged the newly elected local government chairmen to deliver the dividends of democracy to their people.

He advised them to justify the confidence placed in them during the election.

Makinde further stated that if APC had a court judgment in its favour, it should follow due process in implementing it.

He added that true democrats would not want a resort to violence.

Makinde said: “We just want to peacefully deliver the dividends of democracy to our people. So, nobody should resort to self-help.

“Even if you have a court judgment, there is a process; let the process go through.”
