A concerted bid to mend cracks between Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun State and his predecessor, the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola has taken Osun State lawmakers elected under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the doorsteps of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor E. A. Adeboye.
The move, which is coming ahead of the 2022 gubernatorial election in the state, saw the lawmakers visiting Adeboye, a respected elder and a prominent indigene of Osun State.
Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Timothy Owoeye, and eight other lawmakers, reportedly met with Pastor Adeboye last week at the Redemption Camp, with the aim of convincing the General Overseer to intervene and help restore peace between Oyetola and Aregbesola.
The appeal for the intervention is against the backdrop of the battle between Aregbesola’s loyalists under the aegis of The Osun Progressives (TOP) and Oyetola for the soul of the APC in Osun State.
It would be recalled that last year, the national leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and former governor of Osun State, Chief Bisi Akande, made efforts to reconcile the warring parties to no avail.
The APC caucus in the State House of Assembly was said to have taken the move further by seeking the input of Adeboye into the efforts to reconcile Oyetola and Aregbesola.
“The visit was led by the Speaker and they sought Baba’s help to help broker peace so as to guarantee and sustain the development of Osun. Baba appreciated the visit and the Speaker’s team’s initiative to resolve the issues. He stressed however that though he is not a politician, he will be guided by the scripture that said blessed are peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God. The General Overseer prayed for his visitors before they departed for Osogbo,” the source said.
