Ososa ‘Omooroyo’ Day Celebration: A New Era of Cultural Revival

Subsequent to a successful holding of its 2023 edition, the Ososa Traditional Council, Ososa United Society and the entire People of Ososa in Odogbolu Local Government area has concluded plans to hold a second edition between Mon 25th November and Sun.1st December, 2024, theme: “Create Hope…, in Yourself, Community and World”

The Gbegande of Ososa, His Royal Majesty, Oba Mojeed Adetoye Alatishe said the success of the first edition and the accompanying positive outcomes is a testimony to the truth that the annual ‘Ososa Omooroyo Day” celebrations has come to stay as a cultural event of note among others in its mould.

Oba Alatishe, speaking to journalists after a press briefing heralding the 2024 edition of the Ososa Omooroyo Day festival, saluted the tenacity of the Chairman, planning committee of Ososa Omooroyo 2024, Chief Abayomi Adewunmi, the Secretary Mr Ayodele Idowu for their commitments towards placing Omooroyo Ososa on the world tourism calendar.

He also reaffirmed his commitment to preserving the cultural heritage and traditions of Ososa Kingdom.

Held at the Chief Hubert Ogunde Hall, Oba Gbegande Palace, Ososa on Monday, the press briefing marked the beginning of a week-long celebration of Ososa’s rich cultural heritage. Kabiyesi said the Festival aims to promote unity, peace, and cultural awareness among the people of Ososa and its neighboring communities.

The royal father expressed gratitude to all sons and daughters of Ososa for their supports and cooperations in making last year’s (the maiden) edition a success.

He assured that this year’s celebration would be more glamorous and colorful, with a wide ranges of activities, including cultural performances, traditional dances, and exhibitions of local arts and crafts.

“We are committed to preserving our cultural heritage and promoting peaceful coexistence amongst our people,” Oba Alatishe said. “The Ososa Omoroyo Day celebration is a testaments to our resolve to keep our traditions alive and to pass them on to future generations.”

Addressing journalist in a speech at the press conference, Chairman, planning committee of Ososa Omooroyo Day 2024, Chief Abayomi Adewunmi, delighting in the successes of the 2023 edition, explained that funds raised during the recent were spent in providing needed infrastructure like sinking of new boreholes, renovation of existing ones and some other public utilities.

Chief Adewunmi assured that this year’s celebration promises to be an exciting and memorable event, with something for everyone to enjoy.
While appreciating the Gbegande of Ososa who he said has demonstrated his commitment to the development and progress of Ososa Kingdom.

‘His leadership and vision have been instrumental in promoting peace, unity, and cultural awareness among the people of Ososa.” Adewunmi said, adding
that the Omooroyo Day celebration is a shining example of Oba Alatishe ‘s dedication to preserving the cultural heritage and traditions of Ososa Kingdom. As the kingdom looks forward to a brighter future, the Gbegande of Ososa remains committed to leading his people towards a more united, peaceful, and prosperous tomorrow.

Also speaking at the event, Vice Chairman, Ososa Omooroyo 2024 planning committee, Otunba Adeniyi Adeneye, who spoke in Ijebu dialect explained that various activities have been lined up for this year’s festival, including; Medical Outreach / health talk, Inter Club football competition, Ososa beauty pageant, inter school debates, Ikokore night, where the culinary heritage of Ososa will be displayed.

According to the Secretary General of the planning committee, Ayodele Idowu Also expressed delight that the Omooroyo Day Celebrations had come to stay. Ayodele Idowu, who went the memory lane explained that the Ososa Day , an ancient festival suffered about 30 years interregnum but rejoices that the festivals will soon place Ososa on the global tourism calendar with the effort of the Oba Alatishe, the chairman planning committee Chief Adewunmi, and other members of the committee.
