Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege  commended Nigerian workers, saying that they   deserve to be celebrated beyond the Workers’ Day.

‘’Despite the very challenging times we all face today, history will forever remember their resilient spirit and dynamic roles’’,  Omo-Agege said, even as he acknowledged Nigerian workers’ roles since the pro-independence struggles till date.

“Few come close to the resilient spirit of Nigerian workers whose struggles, toil and sweat have contributed in no small way towards the building of this nation. Across the world today, many workers can no longer work because of this pandemic. Many workers are trudging on heroically and indeed, many workers in the health and other sectors are working assiduously towards saving Nigeria from the ravaging effect of this global problem’’, he added.

In a statement signed by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity,  Yomi Odunuga, the Deputy President of  the Senate  advised that retiring workers with entrepreneurial capabilities can join others in exploring possibilities of starting businesses through the Central Bank of Nigeria’s N50 billion Agri-Business/Small and Medium Enterprise Investment Scheme (AGSMEISS) loans and those being offered by the Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL).

In another development, the Deputy President of the Senate felicitated with renowned  sports administrator, Chief Solomon Ogba on his 60th birthday.

In a special congratulatory message, Omo-Agege noted that Ogba  has written his name in gold and has set unparalleled records in the history of sports promotion and development in Delta State and Nigeria.

“You have led a remarkable life that is great in accomplishments. Through diligence and hard work you served with great distinction in sports promotion and development in Delta State. Under your leadership, Delta State made real progress, winning the National Sports Festival in 2000, 2004 and 2006 in Bauchi, Abuja and Ogun respectively and coming second in Edo 2002’’.

“Indeed, there has never been any more productive time in the history of sports development in Delta State. And as you celebrate your birthday, may you be surrounded by warmth of happy memories and secure in the knowledge that you took Delta State to higher level and impacted the lives of many youths’’, Omo-Agege added.
