The 164th Founders’ Day ceremony of CMS Grammar School, Bariga kicked off yesterday with the Old Grammarians Society (OGS) set to commission a medium water supply system and honour those who left the institution 60 years ago.
President of OGS, Mr. Olu Vincent, while briefing journalists at the school premises, said the 40,000 -litre water system donated by the 1983 set would ensure the provision of potable water to the students.
He added that the OGS will also honour students who left the school 60 years ago, as part of the activities for the weeklong Founders’ Day celebration .
Vincent emphasised that the old students of the oldest institution in Nigeria, will continue to pay attention to the school and ensure the improvement of facilities.
“The Old Boys believe that we owe the school an obligation to ensure restoration of the glory of our dear school as no sacrifice or contributions will be considered too big or great.
“Only few weeks ago, Dr. Sabu Jacobs donated N6.49 million, (on behalf of himself and younger brother) both old boys, to cater for the school fees of some indigent students.
“In continuation of our computerisation programme, OGS America’s has just completed the laying of optic fibre connecting every building in the school,” he added.
The OGS President listed projects initiated by the old Boys to include an Olympic -size swimming pool, an air-conditioned hall with a separate 100KVA generator and a modern basketball court.
He also listed the newly commissioned E-learning Centre with 350 work stations, facilitated by an old boy as well as a modern sick-bay .
Principal of the school, Reverend Jacob Ogunyinka commended the OGS for its immense support and making a positive impact in the lives of students and members of staff.
He specifically commended the OGS for the provision of an intranet which has provided an enabling environment for teachers to source materials online and improved teaching/learning methods.
The Principal also mentioned the installation of the CCTV camera which has enhanced the
security architecture of the school.
Ogunyinka also commended the donation of the e-library by Sen. Gbenga Ashafa, adding that plans are underway to use as a CBT JAMB centre in 2024.
Other activities lined up include the Prize giving day, Career talk and Presentations to notable old boys who have excelled in their chosen careers.
