Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta state has urged the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) to partner with his administration to fast track the industrialization and development of the state.
He made the call through his Senior Policy Adviser, Rt. Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, who paid a courtesy call on the leaders of both arms of Labour in their offices in Asaba.
Addressing the State Executive Council of the NLC led by the state chairman, Comrade Goodluck Ofobruku, and the TUC executive council led by its chairman, Comrade Martin Bolum, at separate meetings, Solomon said the governor’s developmental road map is anchored on building a motivated workforce.
According to him, under the governor’s MORE Agenda, governance will be undertaken with the collaboration efforts of stakeholders, especially organized labour.
He invited the labour leaders to a retreat where all issues relating to the Governor’s development agenda will be unfolded and secure labour’s input.
“The Governor is determined to chart a fresh course for Delta State and he will surmount all barriers in achieving this. Until he became governor, the story was that Julius Berger can never come to Delta. But he has changed that narrative and Julius Berger is now in the state building quality roads. That is the standard he is setting and this is just the beginning”, Solomon stated.
He invited the labour leaders to nominate 20 of their members to attend a retreat being put together by the office of Senior Policy Adviser. “Labour has always been a collaborative development partner in Delta State and he wants you to support his endeavours to lift the standard of living in the state”, Solomon said.
Comrade Ofobruku and Comrade Bolum pledged the support of labour to the Governor. They commended his approach to governance and what he has already accomplished in the past seven months, noting that it is the pathway to industrial peace and good labour relations.
The Senior Policy Adviser whose office supervises the SERVICOM Unit and Labour relations was accompanied by the director of the unit, Mrs. Uche Onwusanya and other officers of the unit.
