NCC Will Partner With Government, Operators, Consumers — Maida

Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Aminu Maida said the commission will work closely with the operators, government and the consumer .

He also noted that it has become necessary to reposition the sector and push it forward, the NCC helmsman said that going forward, telecommunications sector licensees will be held more accountable for all their deeds in the sector.

Maida, who made the statement on Thursday at an interactive meeting with top Media Executives in Lagos, said that the NCC will focus on key areas, such as collaboration, Data centric administration, compliance and monitoring and digitisation.

He added that the commission would follow the Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy’s blueprint, which was presented by Minister Bosun Tijani.

Every effort would be made to guarantee that the sector contributes more, particularly in terms of GDP to the economy, job creation, and increased government revenue, Maida added.

Maida also disclosed that the NCC would be addressing the needs of the major stakeholders, the customers, by guaranteeing good quality of service (QoS), enabling customers to make informed decisions, and simplifying and transparently offering tariffs.

The NCC promised to put an end to the practice of telecom subscribers carrying multiple phones or SIM cards.

He said the commission would run education programmes to make sure customers are aware of and receive quality services.

According to him, one of the key things “we have to recognize is that within the digital economy space the NCC plays a very huge role, because the communications infrastructure especially in this digital age is the backbone of the digital economy and of course the backbone of any nation noting that today when one talks about dispute and conflict between countries you cannot do without mentioning cyber wars.”
