NCC Advises Consumers On Possible Causes of Data Depletion

Inadequate  knowledge of the  use of smart phones, laptops and tablets are  some of the causes of data depletion, according to   Nigeria telecoms regulator, The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) .

Officials of NCC added that   victims of data depletion may also lose from automatic update of smart phone operating systems (Android, iPhone, Blackberry) on mobile network.

“Non-closure of applications running on the phone, lack of knowledge on how to calculate bandwidth usage and cost per unit,” NCC experts added.

To prevent data depletion, they advised telecom consumers to limit their data usage in Android or Internet Operating System (IOS) settings.

Rather, consumers were advised to restrict App background data by using data compensation in Google Chrome.

Also, Telecom consumers were advised to update apps over Wireless Fidelity (WiFi) only, adding “Limit your use of video and audio streaming activities, install and activate only the apps you need.”

The use of cache Google Maps for offline use to optimise accounts sync settings was also advised.
