Minister John Owan Enoh Allegedly Orders Beating of Constituent, Declares Immunity Due to His Position

The Minister of State for Trade and Investment, Senator John Owan Enoh, has come under scrutiny following accusations of ordering a physical assault on a constituent in Cross River State. The incident reportedly occurred shortly after the local government election which had little or no opposition in his local government area.

The alleged victim, Nsan Obi, a constituent, claims he was physically assaulted by police officers attached to Senator Owan Enoh. Witnesses recount that the attack took place without provocation and resulted in injuries requiring medical attention. Nsan Obi is an ardent follower of Governor Otu who during the 2023 guber election, came all out for Otu against Owan. Senator Owan got a perfect opportunity to pounce on him through his thugs and security details.

Earlier yesterday at around 3p.m, Enoh allegedly had a heated altercation with another resident who was said to have shown support for other political leaders. According to witnesses, the senator nearly attacked this individual personally. This victim was also reportedly injured and is currently hospitalized.

The minister allegedly justified his actions by boasting about his power as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, asserting that he could not be held accountable. Witnesses reported hearing him claim that, as a minister, he would “always have his way” in the area’s political affairs, including securing key roles like vice chairmanship and councilorship seats for his allies.

Recall that a similar incident happened some years ago when he ordered and supervised the beatings of Barrister Agbor Agbor and Obi Steve his relatives.

Senator John Owan Enoh is allegedly planning to clinch the 2027 APC ticket and he is fully ready to get by any means possible.

Efforts by local media to reach Senator Enoh for comment have, as of this report, been unsuccessful.

Community members are expressing concern over the alleged abuses of power, with some calling for an investigation into the incidents and the minister’s conduct.
