A lawmaker, Adebola Shabi, has commended the youths of Lagos Mainland Constituency 11 for heeding his counsel to shun the nationwide protest, which kicked off on Thursday.

Shabi, a Member representing Mainland Constituency 11 in the Lagos State House of Assembly (LAHA), made the commendation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

He told NAN that he had earlier addressed the youths to make the protest peaceful and avoid the exercise being hijacked by miscreants.

He acknowledged the economic situation and the need for the people to express their grievances, noting that there was no need for protest that would result to violence and destruction of infrastructure.

According to him, before Thursday when the protest kicked off, he had made the youths realise that the present administration was just a year plus adding that Nigerians needed to give President Bola Tinubu more time.

“Our youths in Mainland have listening ears. I advised them earlier to have a change of mind and not to engage in violent protests or allow themselves to be used.

“And, today, there is no protest in Lagos Mainland Constituency 11, and I can say that they took to my advice and their response is a laudable one.

“I acknowledge their understanding and appreciate their representatives who have ensured that the youths of this community stayed away from taking part in the protest, and made the environment peaceful,” he said.

The lawmaker was optimistic that President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which, he said, was for the good and betterment of the citizens and nation at large would be achieved.
