The Lagos State Government, through the Special Offences (Mobile) Court and the Lagos State Task Force, has warned motorists against traffic violations.
The government also warned pedestrians against committing environmental offences and cautioned rebellious motorists who frequently violate the state’s traffic laws to desist or face the full consequences of their actions under the law.
The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro (SAN), made the declaration on Wednesday during a one-day sensitisation campaign organised by the Mobile Court and Task Force.
The event held at Bolade, Oshodi, Lagos, had the theme Zero Tolerance for Violation of Traffic Offences, Environmental Offences, and Other Related Matters.
Pedro reiterated that “ignorance of the law is no excuse.” He highlighted the role of the Mobile Court in handling minor offences, including street trading, environmental nuisances, and improper waste disposal, to decongest regular courts and ensure swift justice.
“Government has reiterated its stance on zero tolerance for violation of traffic offenses such as driving in a direction prohibited by law also known as ‘One-Way’, plying designated BRT corridors, obstruction of vehicular movement on the highway and street trading among others,” he stated.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Hameed Oyenuga, represented by Yemisi Ogunlola, called for greater compliance with existing laws and utilisation of public facilities. She stressed that “It is the government’s responsibility to provide infrastructure, but citizens must play their part by using these facilities and adhering to regulations.”
