An Assistant Superintendent of Nigeria Immigration Service, Imojara Godwin Imojara, was kidnapped along with two other passengers on the Ikom-Calabar highway to Ogoja. The incident adds to the growing number of reported abductions on the route, which has become a hotbed of criminal activity in recent times.

Imojara, who was travelling in a Toyota Corolla vehicle, was en route Ogoja for today’s governorship election when the abductors struck. The kidnappers, who were armed, forcefully took the Immigration officer and his fellow passengers away. The abductors have since demanded N50 million naira as ransom for the release of the victims.

This incident marks the latest in a series of abductions along the Ikom-Calabar highway, which has seen more than 60 motorists and travellers abducted since October 2022. The list of victims includes former minister Usani Usani, who narrowly escaped death.

Irene Ugbo, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force in Cross River State, confirmed the incident and assured the public that the authorities are working tirelessly to secure the safe release of the victims.

“The CP Election has directed that drastic action be taken. It is being worked on, ”. she said.
