The members of Ijebu East Obas Forum have endorsed the Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government, Hon. Oyesanya Adetutu Elizabeth, for her sterling performance within a short period of assumption of office.
At the meeting of the Obas Forum held last Friday at the Ogbere, Ijebu local government headquarters, which was the first since the council chairman was sworn in, in October last year, the traditional rulers commended the council chairman for her strides in human empowerment, infrastructural development, provision of boreholes and prompt response and interventions to the security challenges in the Local Government.
Moving the motion for a vote of confidence on the chairman, the Oloko of Ijebu Imushin, Kabiyesi Oba Stephen Onafowokan, remarked that Oyesanya has been very responsive and accessible on issues concerning the local government, describing her as humble, responsible and a good listener. Kabiyesi Oloko therefore urged the royal fathers to accord all necessary support and recommendation to the Chairman.
Supporting the position of Oba Oloko, the Oyebola of Igbaga, Oba Martin Olatunde Adenaike, commended the Council Chairman for resuscitating the meeting of the Obas Forum and according recognition to the Obas, saying such gestures was last received about 15 years ago during the tenure of Comrade Tunde Oladunjoye.
The current chairman of the forum and Akija of Ikija, Oba Anthony Kayode Alakija, noted that within a short time in office, Oyesanya demonstrated rare leadership prowess .
All other royal fathers spoke in a similar vein.
Responding, the council chairman thanked the royal fathers for their commendation and support since she assumed office. She sought for their continuous assistance and cooperation, especially in the areas of security and chieftaincy. Oyesanya requested that the meeting of the Obas should henceforth be on a monthly basis; a request that was accepted by the royal fathers.
Earlier on, the council boss updated the Obas Forum on the state of the council including the executed and on-going projects of the council across the 11 wards in the local government area.
Among the programmes and projects include the refurbishment of the Local Government Secretariat, which was last painted in 2008, partnering with the state government in the distribution of 6,310 bags of rice as federal government’s palliatives to indigent people within Ijebu East; financial support/empowerment to pregnant and aged women from the 11 wards of the council; sinking of nine boreholes with water tanks and power generating sets in nine wards between December 2023 and February this year; construction of a drainage at the flood-ridden part of Itako, Ijebu Ife and another drainage at Ajebandele.
Additionally, Solar lights have also been provided through the Ogun State Ministry of Rural Development to the following security outposts: Itele police post, Amotekun offices in Ogbere and Ijebu Imushin, Ife police station, Itamogiri police and Ijebu Imushin market.
Among projects listed for execution in the coming weeks are the construction of a block of two classrooms at Imobi, reconstruction and expansion of the narrow bridge linking Ogbere, a bridge that has been in use since the colonial days; a drainage at Ajebandele among others.
She assured the Council of Obas of her continuous effort to deliver dividends of democracy to the good people of Ijebu East Local Government and make life more meaningful for all and sundry in line with the ISEYA pillars of the Dapo Abiodun Administration.
Present at the meeting were Oba Anthony Kayode Alakija, Akija of Ikija-Ijebu, who is the Chairman of the forum; Oba Mufutau Adesanya Kasali the Moyegeso of Itele Ijebu; Oba Abiodun Falade Adegbesan, Onitasin of Itasin-Imobi; Oba S.A Onafowokan, Oloko of Ijebu-Imushin; Oba Olalekan Kasali, Obelu of Esure; Magunsen of Itamarun, Oba Joseph Abayomi Ade Fakoya; Oyebola of Igbaga, Oba Martin Olatunde Adenaike; and Ogirimadagbo Akin of Ilodo and Oba Isiaka Olajide Ajede, who is the secretary of the forum.
