Dethroned Emir Lamido Sanusi who has been in the eye of the
storm since last Thursday has said his unceremonious
exit denied him the opportunity of
leaving with his prized personal possessions.
Kano State Government dethroned Sanusi, the 14th Emir of Kano last Thursday,
following an approval by the state executive council.
Among his many ‘sins’ as cited by the Kano state government was his alleged
refusal to attend official meetings and programmes organised by the government
without any lawful justification as well as a ‘total disrespect for lawful
instructions from the office of the state government’.
Sources claimed that apart from his personal effects, the exiled monarch was
not able to take any book from his rich library estimated at over 200 million
naira.
Sources who quoted an aide to the deposed Emir, Da Buram Kano said Sanusi was ‘’harassed
and rushed out of the Emir’s Palace without letting him take any personal
belongings and personal effects, along with him as they took him into (their)
waiting vehicles. He was then taken in company with loads of armed men to the
Nigerian Air Force Base in Kano where he was put in a private aircraft to Abuja.’’
An interim court which ensured Sanusi’s
release from confinement to Nasarawa
state as well as the intervention of Kaduna state governor Nasir El-Rufai of
Kaduna State gave the dethroned Emir some respite as he was allowed freedom of movement .
Meanwhile, a case is already in court in a determined bid to restore Sanusi’s rights to human dignity, personal liberty,
freedom of association and movement in Nigeria.
