Following the November 2 local government elections in Cross River State, Hon. Theresa Akwaji Ushie has officially received her Certificate of Return, confirming her as the newly elected Chairman of Bekwarra Local Government Area. In a landslide victory, Ushie, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), secured 31,521 votes, decisively defeating her opponents from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Young Progressives Party (YPP), who received 2,035 and 576 votes, respectively. The Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC) announced the results in Calabar, solidifying Ushie’s position as the people’s choice.
Hon. Ushie expressed deep gratitude, attributing her success to divine providence and the support of her constituents. “I thank God for the smooth and peaceful conduct of the election. This victory is not mine alone; it belongs to every citizen of Bekwarra who has entrusted me with this mandate. I pledge to honour that trust,” Ushie remarked.
She also extended heartfelt appreciation to Cross River State Governor, Sen. Bassey Edet Otu, recognizing his leadership as instrumental in guiding the state along a progressive path. Hon. Ushie assured supporters and residents that her administration would fully embrace Governor Otu’s “People’s First” agenda, vowing to prioritize projects and initiatives that directly improve the lives of Bekwarra citizens.
“I am committed to ensuring that Governor Otu’s vision for the people is felt here in Bekwarra. My administration will reflect his ‘People’s First’ mantra, and I intend to deliver on every campaign promise,” Ushie affirmed. She outlined her plans to strengthen public health infrastructure, expand educational opportunities, and implement sustainable programs for youth and women’s empowerment.
