An actor and compere, Babatunde Ojobaro, has called on wealthy Nigerians to do more to assist the poor especially in acquiring quality education.
Ojobaro made the appeal while distributing schoolbags to pupils of Unity Primary School, Awodiora, Ajegunle, Lagos State.
Ojobaro (a.k.a Mister Rain) donated the schoolbags in celebration of his 40th birthday anniversary.
He said that well-meaning Nigerians should endeavour to invest in the lives of the less privileged as personal social responsibility, for a greater future.
He described the citizens as their brothers’ keepers, urging them to show more love.
He said:“I have seen how some Nigerians rally round individuals and groups that need help.
“However, there are more people out there to reach out to.
“I decided to channel my 40th birthday anniversary celebration to giving out schoolbags to primary school children in this community where I grew up.
“It is a way of giving back. I used to play football on the school pitch, and I feel very happy doing this today. I hope to do more.”
Responding, the Acting Head Teacher of the school, Mrs Ngozi Ifele, expressed gratitude to Ojobara for the donation.
“We are very happy for your visit and gifts, we are very grateful for remembering our school,” she said.
She said that the schoolbags would help the beneficiaries in learning, regretting that some parents could not afford school materials for their children.
‘`We even had a case where two students from the same parents were sharing one bag.
Today, they are smiling home with one bag each. Thank you once again, Mister Rain.
“We wish you happy birthday and pray that God will bless you for supporting these children,” she added.
The acting head teacher appealed to other individuals and organisations to also donate educational materials to schoolchildren in need.
