…Praises LASTMA Boss for Changing Public Narratives
The Permanent Secretary Office OF Infrastructure Engr. Lateef Somide was on, Tuesday, inducted as a Special Traffic Mayor by the management of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA.
The induction ceremony took place in the Conference Room of the Office of Works, Alausa Ikeja.
Speaking at the ceremony, Engr. Somide described his induction as a welcome development to improve vehicular movement and traffic management in the State.
He praised the activities of the agency, noting that LASTMA’s efforts have assisted in ensuring easy flow of traffic to ensure workers and Lagosians get to their destinations in good time.
Somide also poured encomium on the recent activities of the agency, stating that feedback from Lagosians has changed on the public perception of LASTMA.
Somide applauded the collaborative efforts of all players on roads and traffic management in the State, just as he enjoined all State workers to keep doing their best for Lagos to be the State to emulate.
According to Engr. Somide, “I accept this responsibility wholeheartedly as all of us road users also have responsibility to ensure we support the good work of LASTMA in road traffic management in the State.
“Recent feedback from the public indicates the good work of the agency since Olalekan Bakare-Oki took over. I am therefore pleading with us all to work together with LASTMA. As you all know, no one can clap with one hand,we all have to synergies to ensure that the T an acronym for Traffic Management is realised. “he stressed.
The Director, LASTMA Traffic Advocacy and Special Traffic Mayor, Mr Jimi Awoyemi, who inducted and decorated the Permanent Secretary, urged the new Traffic Mayor to assist in promoting and delivering on good traffic flow in the State.
He noted that according to the request of the Commissioner for Transport, Mr Segun Osiyemi, and consequent adoption by the Body of Permanent Secretaries in Lagos State for the induction of all Permanent Secretaries as Special Traffic Mayors, the ceremony was important to ensure Engr. Lateef Somide also joined the call for smooth traffic management in Lagos.
Awoyemi stressed that each Mayor has been equipped with uniforms and materials to guide them on this new collaboration, and also make it easy to get to senior officers of the agency when the need arises at any point of traffic gridlocks.
In his words, “the objective of this new mandate is for the senior State officials to assist LASTMA to achieve its vision and mission on free flow of traffic around Lagos metropolis.
“We at LASTMA are happy to work with them and have therefore provided each Special Traffic Mayor with all necessary requirements to act instantly or call our officers to address any infractions or gridlocks witnessed while driving within the State. ” Awoyemi added.
The ceremony was witnessed by all Directors in the Lagos State Office of Works and senior officers of LASTMA Directorate of Traffic Advocacy and Special Traffic Mayor.
