As election to the office of the governor holds in two weeks time, the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, has strengthened the support base of Asue Ighodalo, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the State, with the unanimous endorsement by teachers in Owan East and West LGAs in Edo State.
The Speaker addressed large number of teachers in Sabongidda-Ora and Afuze, with the Assembly Boss lauding the teachers for their contribution to the preservation of knowledge in the society and, for making him an enlightened personality. He pointed out that, “Without teachers, knowledge cannot be preserved and imparted.
“I thank you for inculcating the knowledge in me.
“Today, I can stand tall to address any congregation because you taught me well.”
On the forthcoming election in the state, he said, “I am here to appeal to you, speak with you and to tell you where we are heading.
“Teachers gave me massive support during my election. I thank you for that. It is now my turn to reciprocate by putting in place public infrastructure that everyone will enjoy.
“Through your votes , I am now the number 3 man in Edo and it will continue to favour us.
“We have been able to employ many of our youths, construct roads, ongoing construction of health centre at Ikhin, provided transformers to Otuo, built Umeahi Central School at Uzebba, shopping mall, light up communities and a host of other things we are doing.
“In the coming budget year, construction of Avbiosi-Okpokhumi road will be put in budget. We will use this position to develop Owan nation.”
While lamenting the state of the nation and how the recent increase in the pump price of petrol by the APC-led federal government, he urged the teachers to vote for Asue Ighodalo, stressing that, “We must team up and support Asue Ighodalo, in order for him to sustain the policies and gains of Governor Obaseki.
“Obaseki has done very well for workers, with the #70,000 minimum wage Edo workers now enjoy.
“We do not want a governor that will owe workers in Edo.
“Edo cannot be in the hands of someone who does not know the difference between Museum and zoo. You must be sound to govern Edo.”
Responding, Comrade Frank Osemobor, the NUT chairman in Owan West and Prince Sunday Akhimien, Principal Ozalla Secondary Commercial School, assured the speaker of teachers’ readiness to vote for Asue Ighodalo. “We will not disappoint you. We are going to celebrate PDP’s victory.
“We are taking this message home to our children, friends, neighbors and all around us, to mobilize and vote for Asue Ighodalo of the PDP.”
Similarly, Mrs Uangbaoje Clara, Principal of St. James’ Grammar School, Afuze, said, “We feel really honoured to have you in our midst.
“On behalf of the teachers, we are grateful for this visit.
“Since you became the Speaker, we have felt your impact. The Lord continue to increase you.
“We can’t go back to Egypt, we have seen the light. For Owan East teachers, we are giving our votes to PDP.”
Highpoint of the Speaker’s meeting with teachers was the unanimous endorsement of Asue Ighodalo for Governor, with the Speaker’s assurance that Asue will not disappoint Edo workers.
