Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri yesterday received the New Telegraph Newspapers 2023 Governor of the Year Award in the Human Capacity Development category.
The event which held at the Federal Palace Hotel on Victoria Island in Lagos also had other awardees, including Governors of Lagos, Enugu, Bauchi, Gombe and Kebbi states as well as top public servants, corporate organisations and individuals.
Diri, who was represented at the event by his deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, expressed joy that his administration’s efforts at re-defining the socio-economic well-being of Bayelsa State indigenes and residents attracted recognition and honour.
”Our policies and emphasis on skills acquisition, technical and vocational education, ICT development and provision of monthly grants to small scale businesses in our state are not only gaining ground but also reshaping the narrative about our state, ” the Bayelsa helmsman noted.
He dedicated the award to the people of Bayelsa for their support for his administration.
