The Cross River State House of Assembly has sympathy with Rt. Hon. George Oben-Etchi, a former member of the House, following the recent passing of his beloved wife, Mrs. Faith Oben-Etchi. In a solemn gathering, Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, extended the assembly’s condolences, affirming their shared grief and the bond that connects each member of the legislative body.
Speaker Ayambem emphasized the assembly’s ethos of solidarity, stating, “An injury to one is an injury to all.” He offered prayers for Mrs. Faith Oben-Etchi’s soul, entrusting her to God’s peace, and reassured Rt. Hon. George Oben-Etchi of the assembly’s enduring support and “brotherly love” during this difficult time.
The Speaker further reflected on the pain of loss and the mystery surrounding life’s hardships, acknowledging, “No one has the power to question God on why someone died; in all, we must give glory to God.” He prayed for divine comfort to sustain Rt. Hon. Oben-Etchi and his family expressed hope that the assembly’s continued presence and shared prayers would ease the burden. “Words may not fully console you, but by the grace of God, may you be strengthened to carry on, especially for your children,” he added.
