CMS Bariga Celebrates 163rd Anniversary In Grand Style

The Old Grammarians’ Society (OGS) last Monday   celebrated the 163rd Founder’s Day of CMS Grammar School, Bariga with a series of activities including the commissioning of projects, particularly the  computerisation of facilities as well as  equipping the school with solar power.


Other activities during the weeklong programme of events included a Community Hymn Singing held at Cathedral Church, Marina, Press Conference/lecture, prize-giving day for students and outstanding teachers, career talk day, novelty match and the  Founder’s Day luncheon.   
Other projects commissioned included the ultra-modern  school Kitchen,  upgraded Staff Room and a beautiful garden.


The elated OGS President, Mr. Olu Vincent commended  the  old boys, individuals, private and corporate organisations for their unceasing assistance and constant support which made CMS grammar school stand out, in terms of modern facilities .

The Bishop, Diocese of Badagry, Rt. Rev. Babatunde Joseph Adeyemi, who commissioned the Independent Power Supply project, commended the efforts of the  old students and urged them not to relent in their determination to upgrade the facilities of the school.


Rev. Adeyemi, in his sermon at the thanksgiving service, called for the inculcation of good morals in the pupils .  In particular, he appealed to parents and guardians to join the church, school authorities and teachers at various levels to mentor children in the drive to ensure a good crop of  future leaders.

“The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom and that is the foundation of education, where this is missing, then there is likely to be a problem,” he emphasised.


The School Principal, Rev. Jacob Ogunyinka commended the efforts of the OGS to make the school a model to all boarding schools. He emphasised that plans were in high gear to ensure that CMS Bariga continues to produce outstanding students in all areas of endeavour .

 

The 163rd anniversary was hosted by the  1982/84, 1987 and 1997 sets of the school and it had many   OGS members in attendance.
