The 5th Assembly of the Lagos State Youth Parliament, under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Itunuoluwa Soniregun has made significant strides in raising cholera awareness among students in the State.
The event which had over 700 students in attendance was held on Thursday at Government Senior College in Agege, in line with the State’s Health and Health Promoting Lifestyle” pillar of the National Youth Policy.
Soniregun said that the initiative was to sensitise the students on cholera symptoms and the need to apply preventive measures in their daily activities, described it a critical public health concern.
“The Lagos State Government is passionate about your general wellbeing, wants you to be safe and not to fall victim of any outbreak, like we have cholera now.
“It is on that note, that the 5th Assembly of the Lagos State Youth Parliament under my humble leadership has taken this step to come down to sensitise you on this development.
“You must maintain a high level of hygiene, always wash your hands with clean water and soap and don’t eat indiscriminately so as not to expose yourselves to it,” she added.
The first female speaker of the Lagos State Youth Parliament commended efforts of
Hon. Faruq Salami and Soniregun Temiloluwa who according to her, took their time to represent the parliament at the event.
“ The dedication of our honourable members and active youths in Agege cannot be overemphasised, they have put in their efforts which have ensured the success of this vital initiative,” she said.
Soniregun also expressed gratitude to the Commissioner, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Hon. Mobolaji Ogunlende, for creating a platform like the Youth Parliament that empowers young individuals to actively contribute to the development of their society.
