CBN Meets with NLC Over Cash Scarcity

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) held a meeting with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) yesterday in the wake of the Labour body’s decision to mobilize for a shutdown of all CBN branches over cash scarcity concerns.

The meeting was held at the Labour House in Abuja, less than 24 hours after the NLC’s directive.

The NLC cited the scarcity of naira notes, which caused hardship for Nigerians, as the reason for the planned shutdown of activities in all branches of the CBN nationwide.

The meeting was attended by a two-man delegation consisting of the CBN Deputy Governor in charge of Operations and the Deputy Governor in charge of Economic Policy.

During the meeting, the CBN delegation informed the NLC President that about two billion naira was pushed out on Thursday in an effort to address the scarcity.

The CBN promised to ensure that the scarcity of naira notes comes to an end and assured that there will be a remarkable improvement in the coming days.

The NLC President, Comrade Ajaero, reportedly told the CBN delegation to ensure that workers and other Nigerians could collect their money from banks without stress.

He added that the NLC assess the situation until next Wednesday and decide on the next move.
