A POS operator in Kano, Mohammed Sani Abdulrahman, (37), has been rewarded with N500,000 by a Kano-based grain dealer who mistakenly transferred N10 million into his account, instead of N10, 000.
Mohammed had reported to the police the faulty transaction after receiving an alert of N10 million, instead of N10, 000, and his quest to locate the customer who mistakenly transferred the huge amount.
Upon receiving the complaint, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mohammed Usaini Gumel mandated a Special Team of investigators to trace the customer.
Three months after the transaction, a Dawaunu grain market business man was identified and he rewarded Mohammed with N500, 000 after collecting his N9.9 million from CP Gumel who commended Mohammed for his honesty and sense of patriotism.
“It took the Police investigation three ( months period in identifying the owner of the excess money. After getting all the proofs, CP Gumel casts encomium to both the POS Operator and the Police team from the State CID for the display of honesty, integrity, professionalism and encourages others to follow this rare exemplary track,” Kano Police Command spokesperson, Abdullah Haruna Kiyawa said .
