Funeral arrangements for the former past Vice-Chancellor of Adeleke University, Ede, Osun State, Professor Samuel Ekundayo Alao who died in his Ilorin country home on Saturday, December 12 2020 has been announced .
A day of Tributes in his honour will be hosted at 11.30am, on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), Ogba, with Provost, Mr Gbenga Adefaye as chief host.
A Service of Songs will hold on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at 5pm, at his residence on Sango-Akerebiata Road, Ilorin, while a church service is scheduled for 11am, at LGEA Primary School, Oke-Oyi, Kwara State, on December 17, 2020. Interment follows on the same date.
Professor Alao was involved in media work for over three and a half decades. He was a former Editor of Times International and General Manager (Publications) in the old Daily Times Group. He moved into academia after a distinguished career in DTN. A product of Oklahoma University, USA, Prof Alao was Dean, Faculty of Arts and Deputy Vice Chancellor at Babcock University before his appointment as Vive Chancellor at Adeleke University in 2015.
He was educated in several universities in the United States of America including Andrews University and the University of Central Oklahoma with two Bachelors, a Masters degree, an MBA in Leadership and two Doctoral degrees. He worked as a Senior Journalist, State and Regional Correspondent, Editor, Times International, Managing Editor, Magazines, Deputy General Manager in charge of Administration, General Manager, Times Publication Division and later Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Daily Times of Nigeria Plc. His academic career started with a part time lecturing appointment with the University of Lagos before his final disengagement from the Daily Times for full academic assignments since 2005.
He was at various times a Senior Lecturer, Chair/Head of the Department of Mass Communication, Dean of School of Education and Humanities, Deputy Vice-chancellor (Administration) of Babcock University, Chief Executive Officer of Babcock Centre for Executive Development (BCED), the business and consulting department of Babcock University in Nigeria, and Provost of College of Management and Social Sciences.
He published more than 35 peered reviewed articles in reputable local and international journals, and more than ten books out of which five are used as textbooks locally and internationally. Late Professor Alao was a Fellow of more than twelve reputable associations including the Nigerian Guild of Editors (FNGE), Nigerian Institute of Management (FNIM) and Fellow of the Institute of Customer Service and Trade Management (ICSTM).
