The Federal Government has approved a salary increase for civil servants in Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) who are on the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS).
The announcement was made by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Wednesday.
Ngige explained that the pay raise is a peculiar allowance for civil servants and has been provided for in the 2023 budget. He added that the government is considering increasing the salaries of public service workers to help them cope with inflation, the rising cost of living, as well as increased transportation fairs, housing, and electricity tariffs.
The Minister further stated that the Presidential Committee on Salaries has approved a percentage increase for civil servants on the CONPSS scale, and it will take effect from January 1, 2023.
This move by the Federal Government is expected to bring relief to civil servants who have been facing the harsh economic realities of the country.
