President Buhari Plans to Return to Farm After Leaving Office

President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria has expressed his eagerness to return to his farm and tend to his 300 animals after leaving office. The President made this known during a farewell meeting with the outgoing US Ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Beth Leonard, at the State House in Abuja on Tuesday.

During the meeting, President Buhari praised Nigerians for their passion for democracy exhibited during the February 25 and March polls, which he said proved their capability to choose their leaders without external influence. He stated that Nigeria’s democracy has matured, and the people have realized their power to make decisions on who leads them.

The President further commended his own role in the election process, stating that he stayed above board without any interference or meddlesomeness. He also praised Ambassador Leonard for the tremendous progress made in Nigeria-US relations during her three-and-a-half years in office.

Ambassador Leonard cited the institution of a five-year visa regime, collaboration in security, and the supply of military hardware including warplanes and fighter helicopters as some of the achievements recorded in Nigeria-US relations. She also acknowledged cooperation in the health sector to fight HIV and COVID response.

President Buhari is set to hand over to President-elect Bola Tinubu on May 29, after serving his second term of four years. The President’s expressed eagerness to return to his farm after leaving office aligns with his well-known passion for agriculture.
