Alaafin of Oyo, Lamidi Adeyemi  Goes Home

83-year-old  Alaafin of Oyo Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, the flamboyant monarch  has joined his ancestors. He was the longest reigning Alaafin ever, having ruled for 52 years.

The body  of the late Oba, who departed this earthly world  at the Afe Babalola University Hospital Ado Ekiti yesterday night, was  brought to Oyo early this morning and  traditional rites have already started at the palace.

It was learnt that the atmosphere in and around the palace is gloomy as palace officials  were seen wearing long faces as cross the night over the passage of the traditional ruler who has ruled for 52 years .

The  late Oba  was reportedly  in the United Kingdom two weeks ago for some medically related reasons.

Governor Seyi Makinde  of Oyo State is expected to make an official announcement after getting  the report of the monarch’s passing from the Bashorun of Oyo, Yusuf Akinade, the head of the ‘Oyo Mesi’, who will now lead Oyo before a new Alaafin is installed.

Alaafin Adeyemi, a stylish  boxer in his younger days, was also respected for his  knowledge of history, global politics and social affairs.

In the last five months, Oyo state has lost three  senior traditional rulers including the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba  Saliu Adetunji and the Soun of Ogbomoso,  Oba Jimoh Oyewumi.
