The embattled deputy governor of Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi has lost the gubernatorial ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to Eyitayo Jegede in a closely contested primary election which had 2111 delegates voting.
While Ajayi got 657 votes, Jegede, who was the party’s flag-bearer in the 2016 gubernatorial election, had 888 votes.
Jegede is now poised to challenge incumbent Governor Rotimi Akeredolu who emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate last Monday.
Poll results of the other aspirants are : Eddy Olafeso (175 votes), Banji Okunomo (90 votes), Olabode Ayorinde (95 votes), Boluwaji Kunlere (33 votes), Ebisemi Olusola (29 votes) and Erewa Goody (14 votes).
Chairman of the primary election committee, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, urged all other aspirants to close ranks and work on behalf of the party.
