Nigeria’s 2013 Africa Cup of Nations triumph is still lovingly recalled by the country – except by those part of the Association of Nigerian Prostitutes (ANP).
Ex-Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel led the Super Eagles to their first triumph in the competition for 19 years, overcoming Burkina Faso 1-0 in the final in South Africa. It was a day which sparked mass celebrations in the West African country.
While everybody was talking about Nigeria’s incredible triumph, the ANP sensed an opportunity to put themselves into the limelight by offering their raunchy services to the victorious players. However, they were immediately and publicly rebuffed by the team.
When Nigeria overcame tournament favourites the Ivory Coast in the quarter-finals, the ANP secretary Jessica Elvis released a statement that said: “We want to congratulate the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles, for qualifying for the next round of the competition.
“To show our support for the national team, we’ll be declaring one week [of] free sex if the Super Eagles can win the trophy.”
When Nigeria went on to win whole competition, the ANP approached the team to remind them of their prize. However, they were met with a less-than pleased member of the Nigerian Football Federation who went out of their way to ensure they were not made to feel welcome.
A statement from Elvis received by Ghanasoccernet.com said: “The Association of Nigerian Prostitutes (ANP) wishes to congratulate the Super Eagles and indeed the entire nation for the successful outing of our senior national team in the just concluded Africa Cup of Nations, South Africa 2013. We are happy just like every other Nigerian.
“Shortly after the victory on Sunday, one of our leaders met a top member of the Glass House in South Africa and informed him of our planned [prize] for the Eagles when they return to the country, but he out-rightly rejected our offer.
“He told us to “go to hell” and “get a life” and that the Eagles played with passion and not because of our “stupid” promise. We want to register our disappointment over the way we were turned down after our full support for the national team.”
